The Schmidt family, a member of the Maryland Department of Agriculture Hall of Fame, raises quality, sweet, red tomatoes as one of Furmano’s trusted family farms.
Hans and Alan Schmidt and their families own and operate the third generation family farm simply named Schmidt Farms Inc. Started by their grandfather in 1945, the Schmidts live and work on the 1,900-acre farm located in Sudlersville, Maryland in the northern part of the Delmarva Peninsula. One of the newer members of our trusted family farms, Schmidt Farms has been producing tomatoes for Furmano’s since 2003.
The family likes growing tomatoes because tomatoes fit well in their soil conserving, crop rotation plan. They grow other crops and even have a vineyard where they grow grapes. Vineyards require patience, attention to detail and hard work, which carries over into the wonderful tomatoes they supply for Furmano’s.
