Hurricane Relief

The Furmano team has reached out to help fellow Americans whose lives were disrupted by the Hurricanes. Furmano Foods, a tomato and vegetable manufacturer in Northumberland, PA, and its people responded to the devastation felt by the victims of the Hurricanes by sending five trucks filled with canned vegetables. The trucks were loaded with 207,000 lbs. of products ready to eat without additional preparation, including Baked Beans, Bean Salad, Pinto Beans and Diced Tomatoes with Peppers & Onions.

David Geise, President and CEO of Furmano Foods contacted Operation Blessing, an international relief and development corporation, to route the delivery location and get clearance for the drivers and trucks, so the delivery would meet immediate needs.

After the company shipped the first two truckloads on September 8th, many Furmano team members asked how they could help personally. Through donations of cash, vacation and personal time, they raised enough to send 1,200 additional cases. The leadership was so impressed by the generosity of their personnel that they decided to match the employee contributions. A generous contribution of cans from the company’s can supplier, Crown, allowed for additional food to be provided, bringing the combined total to five truckloads.

Dave Geise noted, “God has blessed us greatly over our 84 years of business and we count it a privilege to demonstrate God’s love by helping those in need.”
